I have a nanopad and one of the pads only works half the time, if it doesn’t work I hit the one next to it and then hit it again, usually after a few tries it kicks in.
May be this unit is tougher? Hope so going to give it a try.
Hey man,
I’ve recently bought the LPD8 to start with this. I am a basic Ableton Live (7) user, but I have never used any MIDI or anything.
As you know, the LPD 8 is USB friendly, so i’ve plugged it in and opened Live. So I set up a new MIDI in the sequence, use for example Impulse–>HAL 9000 and hoped to set up each beat (like the Kick, for example) to one of the pads in the product.
I thought it was by clicking the MIDI button at the right top corner, which turns everything blue, and selecting the kick for example while pressing the pad. But nothing happens. The same with the knobs. I wanted to use a knob to control a delay for example but still it has no answer.
I’ve checked if it was connected right by going to Preferences, MIDI and on MIDI ports the USB device was noticed and turned ON. But still no answer. It evens shines the yellow light when I push a pad like it’s receiving it well…
What am I doing wrong?
I do not understand the software that comes with it
Hi, thanks for the review. I notice you said you were going to ditch the nanopad despite the oad senstivity issue. I’m worried about the sensitivity issue as hard pads would definitely ruin the experience for me with trakor, I just want to press gently. Do you know if the mpd 32 and 24 have stiff pads too as I was also considering them.
I read your posts and you seem knowledgeable so I hope you will entertain a question not germane to that thread.
I have a Casio DH100 Wind Synth. It has 6 cheesy tones built in. Would this AKAI LPD8 be able to store some tone presets in the pads so I could load some better sounds than the 6 defaults? I would expect to use a netbook as a platform for live settings (like an Atom; I’m one of the mass of poor $$ musicians).
Any suggestions for cool stuff to use live with a MIDI in would be appreciated.
Please reply direct; I don’t expect I’ll visit that review site again.

Looks good.
Yup, they are indeed tougher.

I think so as more professionals prefer the stiffer pads (because of better velocity-handling).
I’m at the Musik Kreativ Messe Saturday meeting up with someone of Akai and will check out the pads of the MPDs for you.
